Reverb Day Eight:Song

8. Listen: What song do you listen to to completely change your mood?

Completely change my mood?

Pre-race, Massanutten 2011, Henry Speir was spinning records..okay he was handling his digital play list.

We were all in the big tent, it's 3-something in the morning (4am MMT start) I am sitting and chilling.

"Ob Li Di Ob La Da" comes on.  I smile.  I laugh.  I want to dance. I am soo happy, all of a sudden.

Every time I hear this song-and I play it often-I associate it with that positive, happy experience I had at the Massanutten 100. It makes me happy.

The version I have on my Zune is actually a live version that Phish performed.

The other song is Heather Small's "Proud".

This was the theme song for most of the years of "The Biggest Loser".  Okay, it might be cheesy.  But I like to hear it at the end of a long run..or race.

So I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I am on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

It makes me feel good, to know I have nailed that 7 mile pre-sun run, in the dark in the middle of winter;  or the 20 miler on the road, in hot humid OHio in July; or completed 8 loops of the Big Bear Lake 12 Hour Race (I remember playing this song on the Zune right before finishing in 2011)

What have you done today to make you feel proud?

  1. Great song choice. It's hard to feel anything but bubbly listening to that!

I haven't done a thing today yet, but yesterday I had the loveliest 9 mile solo run on the trails in the drizzle. I almost didn't go, but then I put my big girl panties on and I am so glad I did.
