The word for 2012 was Dreams.
My 2012 year was molded by my Hardrock experience. The Hardrock 100 is a 100 mile trail race, the hardest 100 mile race in the United States. Wild & Tough is the Hardrock motto. It is a exclusive race to get into, via lottery, and only if you have qualified at another vetted 100 mile trail race.
Dreams is the noun here.
When I was a little runner girl, back in 2006, I saw Klas' photos of the Hardrock Course. I was immediatley smitten. That course was my dream race-where I wanted to be.
Of course, there is also the saying "be careful what you wish for". The first half of 2012 was pretty stressful for me, as I trained and planned, with the race always looming over my head in July.
Was it everything I thought it would be?
Oh yeah. And then more. The country is astonishly beautiful there. The terrain is indeed, "Wild and tough".
I did not finish the race. I dropped at mile 58.4.
Now that I have been there, I understand a bit more about the race. I have a better idea of the course and terrain, perhaps I will have a better idea of how to plan for the race.
Because I will be back, some day (hopefully in 2014) if the lottery gods are kind to me.
Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2013 for you?
The word that continues to come to mind, is "improve".
I don't have HR as a goal race for 2013.
My goal races are Massanutten 100 Mile Trail Run in the spring, and the Oil Creek 100 Mile Trail Run in October.
I want to run a sub 30 hour at Massanutten. I want to get faster.
So I need to do things a bit differently than I have been doing.
That has already started in November.
