Reverb 13: Day 11: Book(s)

I am starting to fall behind a bit on the reverb prompts. It's me, not the prompts. I just have not had the time to fully flesh out my response to the prompt, in limited time.  Perhaps my four day weekend will allow the muse to catch up..

Reading: What has been your favorite book (or books if you can’t pick just one) that you’ve read this year?

I read a lot of books.   Most on my Kindle.  Most of them are not memorable.  Many are just brain candy.

But stand outs from this past year:  11/22/63 by Stephen King.  I have a lot/hate relationship with Stephen King.  I was a big fan for years.  Loved his writing!  The Stand is still a favorite book.  But over the years, the tomes became sooooooo wordy.  “It” was a bit too  long, and then the one about the alien in the back yard.

“Under the Dome” was promising. Very promising. But then I found myself skipping paragraphs, and then just skimming pages.  I don’t think I even finished reading it.

Then along came "11/22/63".  It’s a time travel book, so that intrigued me.  “Replay” and “The Doomsday Book” are big favorites of mine.  It’s the whole historical “butterfly effect” where you change one thing in the past, and it then changes your present.

I read this book. It interested me.  It got a little too long in places, but the story was intriguing enough that I kept following. I read it almost straight through, over the course of a few days.

11/22/63  is also NOT as long as some of King’s last few releases.  It was a good read.   Well done Mr King!

  1. Reading is such a fantastic hobby. Sometimes I wish I had a long train commute so I could devour more good books!
